A Good Deed
Last December,as it was a long, school holiday and I had decided to go back home in Negeri Sembilan. I was so excited and already could feel a longing for my family. I really miss them so much since I had not seen them for one whole month already because I was studying in one of the renowned boarding schools in Kuala Lumpur. I booked the ticket a week before. Luckily I got the ticket because it was the last ticket sold. It was a nervous experienced for me.
I went to the bus station at 8.15a.m which was 45 minutes earlier than the actual time to start the journey of going to Rembau.
I sat at the waiting area. It was quite a cloudy and windy day. I waited patiently even though I really wanted to go home as quickly as possible.
I saw a large crowd there. Some of them were already boarding their buses which would bring them to their destinations. Some of them were just only sending their families or friends at the station. In conclusion, all of them had their own destination to go.
Just then. I saw an old man walking past me. His appearance caught my attention. He looked worn out and poor. His clothing looked worn out and also had some holes here and there. However, his face looked serene.
In my observation, he is a Malay and his age is around 60 to 70 years old. I was so sure that he had his own destination to go. I saw him holding something like a bag . Then I saw him took out a 50 ringgit note. Then, he put the money back into his bag. Unluckily for him, the note was blown away by the wind and dropped just a stone’s throw away from my seat. He anxiously searched for his money.
I saw the money and hurriedly took it and went towards him. I greeted the man and gave him the money. He was surprised and thanked me profusely for giving back his money. I asked him where he was going. He said that, he was going back to his house which was very far from the station by bus. He said, if he could not find the money he would not have any choice but had to beg money from the people at the bus station to buy a ticket to go home.
After that, I accompanied him to the counter and he bought his ticket. He already got his ticket and I could see him holding it tightly. He said that, he did not want the ticket to fly away. I was smiling alone because of his action.
At about 8.50a.m, I boarded my bus and took my seat. I sat quietly and patiently. I was really excited to reach home and at the same time, I really enjoyed helping the old man.My mom has taught me well. She always reminds me to be honest and helpful. I am glad I have become the person she wants me to be.
